30 Things About My Invisible Illness You May Not Know

I'm in an online support group called Chronic Babes after I read this blog and found this questionnaire - hope it helps my readers to get to know me:

1. The illness I live with is: fibromyalgia/polyarthritis

2. I was diagnosed with it in the year: 2005

3. But I had symptoms since: 9 years old

4. The biggest adjustment I’ve had to make is: listening to my body

5. Most people assume: I'm ok physically/mentally

6. The hardest part about mornings are: getting out of bed

7. My favorite medical TV show is: Grey's Anatomy

8. A gadget I couldn't live without is: my computer

9. The hardest part about nights are: whether I'm going to get a good night's sleep

10. Each day I take __ pills & vitamins. (No comments, please) - 18 different

11. Regarding alternative treatments I: have tried acupuncture, chiropractor and would try anything else if I had the extra money

12. If I had to choose between an invisible illness or visible I would choose: invisible because I wouldn't have met the people I have online

13. Regarding working and career: I am retired and don't know how others work feeling the way I feel or worse

14. People would be surprised to know: I started working at 18 and worked until I was 48

15. The hardest thing to accept about my new reality has been: not knowing how I'll feel day to day

16. Something I never thought I could do with my illness that I did was: going on an airplane by myself

17. The commercials about my illness: doesn't BEGIN to tell how I feel and I BOO them for fun LOL

18. Something I really miss doing since I was diagnosed is: driving anyplace

19. It was really hard to have to give up: going where I wanted any time I wanted

20. A new hobby I have taken up since my diagnosis is: writing and crafts (still working on it)

21. If I could have one day of feeling normal again I would: go to the coast with hubby and walk on the beach for as long as I wanted

22. My illness has taught me: no two people feel the same way physically/mentally with this illness

23. Want to know a secret? One thing people say that gets under my skin is: I GIVE UP

24. But I love it when people: have a positive attitude

25. My favorite motto, scripture, quote that gets me through tough times is: Never say never

26. When someone is diagnosed I’d like to tell them: listen to your body and what it's telling you

27. Something that has surprised me about living with an illness is: I'm not afraid of the word "chronic" any more and I have a chronic illness but it isn't fatal

28. The nicest thing someone did for me when I wasn’t feeling well was: got me a queen size fuzzy blanket and fuzzy socks and flowers all on the same day!
